‘LOUDER THAN WORDS’
JOE MATERA. FEAT. JÁNOS R. KRUSENBAUM
‘Louder Than Words’, one of the most evocative songs in Joe Matera’s impressive and ever-expanding canon, began life as the title track of his 2015 album. Deeply reflective, openly emotional and, as ever with Matera’s songs, laden with smart hooks and links. It was no surprise to see the song adopted as the theme tune to the Manchester music literature festival which shares its name with the song’s title.
This was in November 2020. The world was already changing…darkening daily. It was no surprise, therefore, to see Joe taking the song back int the studio for a re-recording.
A paired down, sharper version; catching the Zeitgeist and augmented by German singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist
János R. Krusenbaum (Blossom Cult). The song now seems to hover defiantly in the air, touching the mood, reflective, hopeful, and gently subversive.
Louder than words, louder than war. Louder than Words is their first collaboration. As you can clearly hear, it is a partnership that flies between the black and the white, adding a contemporary edge to a fascinating and haunting melody.
