Refusing to stay still for one second, Leeds-based genre-bending rock band Mood Organ return with a new single – a metal track called “I Need an Exoskeleton”. The song is a one-off single to help bridge the gap between the group’s debut Slightseeing (released July 2021) and a second EP planned for release later this year.

“I Need an Exoskeleton” blends distorted vocals (describing a patient who underwent a procedure to turn his insides out) with a hard-hitting catchy guitar riff and frantic drums. The song’s instrumental was recorded back in February 2020 in the school music room where the four members were still in sixth form together, and it was mostly forgotten about until they started collecting demos for their sophomore release. Brand new vocals from singer Ev Caulfield were recorded exactly two years later.

Mood Organ explain their decision to release the track as a one-off single: ‘We’ve been working hard on the follow up to Slightseeing since before it even released, and we ended up with about 25 demos we needed to narrow down to a tracklist of 5. While doing that though, some great demos always get lost in the process, and “I Need an Exoskeleton” was one that was too fun not to release despite it not fitting the sound of our next EP. So we wrote and recorded some new lyrics and here we are.’

BIO:
With their songs drawing from the music theory background of the high school classes where all 4 members met, alongside influences from a variety of different artists and styles (Pink Floyd, Tame Impala, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Daft Punk amongst many others), Mood Organ’s distinctive sound blends catchy riffs and melodies with unusual chord sequences and arrangements, topped off with eccentric, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The Leeds-based group’s first EP, Slightseeing, released in July 2021, was compiled from songs written remotely throughout the COVID-19 lockdown by sending back and forth lyrics and musical ideas, and producing demos from these in their bedrooms.

MEMBERS:
Ev Caulfield – Lead vocals
Ollie Lough – Drums
Ben Stinson – Bass, keys
Thom Sweeney – Guitar, keys
