Younger Than Now is the third single from the upcoming sophomore Certain Animals album.
Mumbling about the past, the old man in the corner gives the go-ahead. Younger Than Now is a summary of a human life in just under three and a half minutes. A journey through time that rumbles forth at relentless musical steam locomotive pace. The early years in the countryside, the first infatuation, the first broken heart. Titillating guitars and a frisky honky-tonk take the listener back to puberty.
In the bridge the song grinds to a halt for the first time, we ponder for a while, and then suddenly we have grown up. With brass instruments and windmills in the style of Pete Townshend, the wheel of fortune blasts on. From the village square to the urban jungle, cafes, concert halls, the stage, the spotlights and the audience: Certain Animals sing about life with powerful three-part voices and before the last riff starts, they look back in reveries one last time.
Hold On and Sun King, the first two singles from Certain Animals’ upcoming second album have been very well received by the media in their home country of the Netherlands. In less then three years, the Dutch band managed to build a strong live reputation by playing shows on major Dutch festivals in famous venues all over the country, and they also performed across the border in Belgium and Germany.
While busy touring, band members Thijs van Leeuwen (vocals, guitars), Niels-Jan van Dijk (bass, vocals) and Kees Braam (drums, vocals) managed to build their own recording studio at a former red light district in the port of Rotterdam. At their home base the trio writes, produces and mixes their music single-handedly.
