“Autosleeper” are a Barcelona based post-punk/shoegaze three piece who are releasing their brand new single “Substance, Sometimes”, following their previous 2020 EP “Only Forward”. Autosleeper are comprised of Welsh guitarist/singer Gareth Hughes, Dutch bassist Niek Leermakers and Spanish drummer Hector Aguirrebeña. Their influences range from post-punk bands such as The Cure, Joy Division and The Smiths to 90’s alt rock bands such as Sonic Youth, Swervedriver, My Bloody Valentine and Ride
The single, “Substance, Sometimes”, reflects their progression in sound since their debut singles “Nothing” and “Blue Blood”, released in 2019, and their debut EP “Only Forward” released in March 2020. Aiming for a more angular and intense sound that reflects the intensity of their live shows, “Substance, sometimes” places greater emphasis on dynamics and noise, while opening up Autosleeper’s sound into new territories. The single is intended to serve as a preview for their next, currently untitled EP, which will be released at the end of the year.
Autosleeper have also recorded their first music video which captures the band performing in an industrial space (Hangar, Barcelona) intermixed with movie footage, processed through a VHS and old TV. The video was filmed by Sara Arruga (https://einesymphonie.com/) and edited / post processing by Harry Steel (@hauntedmatress). The artwork was made by Harry Steel and graphic design by Laura Frade.
The song was recorded at ArcticWave studio in Barcelona by Carlos Dueñas (Maren, Sons of Med, Crab Apples), mixed by Dom Mitchinson (Bristol – Spectres, Pet Shimmers) and mastered by Pete Maher (London – U2, Pixies, Nick Cave). Artwork by Harry Steel
Following the upcoming release of their single, Autosleeper will be playing a number of cities around Spain, including Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Zaragoza, with gigs also planned in the UK and Netherlands.
