Plastic People is the first single from the Time EP. The second EP from the Space Time Change series of EPs by Reverend Genes.
Plastic People is about us and the plastic in us. We have much in common. Both are everywhere, both are impressionable, and both are accumulating. We live in a plastic world of our own making.
Do we have the time and space to change this? Do we even want to? Do we care?
For decades it has been well known that plastic is an environmental hazard responsible for killing birds and marine life. Plastic is found from the bottom of the Mariana Trench to the top of Mount Everest.
Plastic particles are intentionally added to lipsticks and toothpastes. Plastics are present in organic fertiliser, and microplastics are found in everyday foods like fruit, vegetables, beef, fish, and drinking water.
Recent research has also shown that microplastics are in human lungs, maternal and fetal placental tissues, human breast milk, and in human blood. (Source: www.sciencenews.org/article/microplastics-human-bodies-health-risks)
Still, the majority of us appear completely comfortable with fossil fuel sources being exploited to make more and more plastic. We seem equally comfortable with the climate impacts that go along with the extraction and burning of fossil fuels to make plastic.
We are plastic people.
Plastic People is built around a driving guitar riff in A minor. This riff is doubled in the bass and morphs into a pulsing synth-like rhythm via filtering. The song features a classic 1964 Fender Deluxe used by artists like Neil Young, George Harrison, and John Lennon.
