On October 6th, Talks Make Do will release their second single, ‘Room For Love.’ Their debut single, ‘Ripples,’ came out earlier this year and garnered attention from outlets such as Unrecorded (UK), Iggy Magazine (FR), CamielMusic (NL), and 3voor12 Leiden. While their recognizable groove, new wave, and indie influences remain intact, reverberated guitars and dystopian lyrics give way to a pop song at its core; an irresistible earworm about a heedless longing for mutual love.
Similar to their predecessor ‘Ripples,’ Talks Make Do drew most of their inspiration from the 1980s for their second single. A synth melody, accompanied by lyrics about an unbridled longing for mutual love, evokes memories of pop songs like Depeche Mode’s breakthrough hit ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ and The Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me.’
Although frontman Alex Hoevenaars and producer/guitarist Arthur Vermeij have been brewing ideas for Talks Make Do’s debut EP for a few years, the five-member band only became active earlier this year. “It was a matter of waiting for the right moment and, above all, finding the right people to do this with. Now that we’re finally complete, it feels right, and we can truly begin,” Hoevenaars explains.
While they work on finalizing their debut EP, which is expected to be released early next year, the band, with members hailing from Rotterdam, Leiden, Amsterdam, and Haarlem, shuttles between stages and rehearsal spaces throughout the western Netherlands.
The band will be performing on the following dates in support of the release of ‘Room For Love’:
October 5th: Paardcafé, The Hague
October 6th: Leidse Lente, Leiden
October 12th: Toekomstmuziek, Amsterdam
October 15th: Bockbier Festival, Utrecht
October 28th: Resistor, Leiden
November 12th: Gigant, Apeldoorn
