Cervus releases second EP ‘Shifting Sands’

On Friday May 12th the Amsterdam-based psychedelic stoner rock band Cervus will release their new EP “Shifting Sands”. It’s the band’s third official release and contains 3 new songs. The EP brings together heavy elements from their first release “Ignis” with the dreaminess and dynamics of their latest single Cycles.

The title Shifting Sands symbolizes the elusive nature of life and the band members’ turbulent experiences over the years. The EP offers an introspective view of the uncertain times we live in. The EP opens with Nirvana Dunes, an intimate psychedelic folk rock track that pays tribute to the band members’ loved ones who are on the brink of death or have recently passed away.

Ramping up the tempo and intensity of the EP with fuzz guitars and synthesizer textures, the second track is Tempest. This is also the band’s first fully instrumental track. The third and final track is Eternal Shadow. This doom-metal epic is alienating and claustrophobic, conveying the weight of loss and the resilience of the band members, which come together in a powerful finale.

The songs were recorded in-house in the Clap Clap Studio in Amsterdam. Drummer Rogier Henkelman mixed the EP and the mastering was done by Wessel Oltheten from Spoor 14 (DeWolff, Blaudzun, I Am Oak). The cover art design was done by vocalist Tom van der Linden. Shifting Sands will be released on Friday, May 12 on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and many other streaming platforms.
