New EP release Chabliz: In Bluebeard’s Garden

Popnoir- and artpopband Chabliz just released an EP with a completely different approach of Joy Division’s ‘New Dawn Fades,’ with an epic orchestral arrangement that reminds you of Philip Glass and Richard Wagner, an almost operatic, female fronted singer and a choir. Two of Chabliz’ bandmembers are Joy Division fans, that’s why they did put all of their love in this cover version. People who love gothic without any guitars or film music might love this too.

Track 3 of theEP is also quite interesting: the title song of ‘In Bluebeard’s Garden’ is a jazzy song like Track 2, but with some other influences too. Everybody knows the famous legend about Bluebeard a.k.a. Henry the 8th and his six wives. Chabliz wrote a song about this gothic fairytale and recorded the song with a beautiful string arrangement, made by pianist Pim, and a choir of six women (Catself, Kalipluche, Anna Rallo, Caroline Ros, Gudrun Blok and the leadsinger) who sing the role of Bluebeard’s six (mainly dead) wives, whose ghosts are still wandering through his delightful garden. The song has a touch of a Kate Bush vibe. The violins and cellos are played by Natasja van Doesburg and Giselle Bentvelsen.
