‘Big Town’ is an alternative rock song that is the fourth release of Skyelar, an independent music project from singer, songwriter and producer Jaklien Verham, based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The song has a more alternative sound and structure than the last ones. To get to the right result, again she’s worked with Nashville guitarist Nicky V., to make sure to get to the exact right guitar rock sound for the arrangements. A cooperation that resulted in brooding verses exploding in broad guitar sounds which will probably make you need to move along immediately. The lyrics are written with a nod to anyone thinking that their town is the very best and the biggest in world and thinking about all the rivalry between cities anywhere. Besides this, although the writer is originally a small town girl, it’s also a tribute to city life.
Jaklien spent many years performing with various bands as a singer throughout the Netherlands and in 2013, performed at the world famous Paradiso in Amsterdam with her last band Rumours, as part of the Pinguin Radio annual music festival. Began in 2017, Skyelar is the culmination of her musical career, combining soaring vocals with brooding, atmospheric compositions which draw you in to her cinematic and richly textured world. Working with session musicians from Europe and the US, her songs are written, arranged and produced from her home studio. Big Town is her next single, of the upcoming album which will be released in April 2022.
