The orange 7inch vinyl Record Store Day release is out July 17th
Netherlands-based songstress and storyteller Judy Blank teamed up with the most liberal cowboy from Kansas – Dylan Earl – and today release their second track ‘Throwing Lines’. Together with previous song ‘Never Said A Word’ both will be released on an orange 7 inch vinyl on Record Store Day out July 17th.
Dylan on the song: “It’s not every day that you write a song in less than 2 hours. However, Judy Blank and I did just this. It was the day before we were to head to Electrosaurus Studios in Utrecht to record ‘Never Said A Word’. I recall bugging Judy about our need for a “b-side” for this little duet of ours. Lucky for me, she decided to humor my request.
Writing songs with Judy is amazing and has taught me so much; she’s a magician with melody and brings out the best in me. For this song, we decided to give a nod to our sometimes unfortunate lifestyles. Our “b-side”, ‘Throwing Lines’, is about the life of a touring musician and the unfortunate circumstances that come with constantly being on the road and playing our songs for strangers. The unfortunate side, in this case, is the constant longing for the one person you’d rather be throwing your lines to.
It’s a downright lonely feeling at times, even when surrounded by people, but we all gotta keep fishing. That’s the duality of the traveling songsmith…”
Judy adds: “Writing this song was so effortless. I remember it well; an afternoon spent at my kitchen table after playing Americanafest in London, one guitar out, fueled by filter coffee. It’s interesting that musicians from all over the world face the same feelings when it comes to mixing tour life and the hope of finding that one special person that’s willing to put up with all of that.
After writing it, we recorded it with my dear friend Pablo van de Poel (DeWolff) who also happens to play bass on the track. Pedal steel magic was done by Stefan Wolfs, and the honky-tonk piano was played by Greg Readling from the North Carolina folk band Chatham County Line, who happened to be in town that day. A true coincidence, because the first time I watched them play TivoliVredenburg in 2017, I got so inspired I wrote my own chart-topping hit single ‘Tangled Up In You’ on that very same night. It’s absolutely fascinating to see where the road takes you sometimes. That’s what makes it all worth it for me. “
