Heavens Gates, following hot on the heels of April’s How Does It Feel, is the second of three releases from Brighton indie rock 4-piece Luna Blue as they blaze a trail out of lockdown. With its eerie introductory lyric and punchy indie rock riff, this track grabs attention from the start with its unusual opening chords. Luna Blue head out on tour in August and September, delighting fans at venues around the UK and appearing with McFly at AmpRocks, ending with a headline finale at Komedia Brighton.
MEANING: The track finds the protagonist driving away from the city and her troubles in pursuit of a better life. With the winds of change around her, and the concept of Heaven described to us from childhood as somewhere where the grass is greener on the other side, she arrives at her destination (Heavens Gates) only for reality to hit hard as she finds that ‘Heavens Gates are closed tonight …. ‘. With lyrics written in April 2021 (during the pandemic) the song reflects a personal experience of people nearby feeling scared and wanting reality to be anywhere but here …
