Singer-songwriter and producer Maeve shares her latest single ‘Bleach’.
The second single to drop from her forthcoming EP ‘Carravagio in a Corner Store’ – following the very well received ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’ – ‘Bleach’ is another masterclass in crafting a catchy yet experimental pop melody over inventive beats. A nod to the often sinister world of social media and the constructed images we choose to display online, Maeve sets out on a mission to break down the smoke screen. “It’s about how we clean away the dirt – the things that aren’t beautiful. You can be going through absolute hell and at the same time everyone can think your life is perfect because of what we all decide to show to people,” Maeve muses. “Scrolling through instagram you see perfect picture after perfect picture but everything is constructed. If you take away the romanticised squeaky clean facade there is something really ominous underneath it all.” Choosing to rip down the velvet curtain and make people stop and think, ‘Bleach’ is essentially nervous dancing and laughing in the face of it all.
With plaudits across the spectrum of the media from the likes of Metal, Clash and Notion for ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl’, Maeve – the moniker of Arianna Broderick – has been tipped as one to watch by BBCR1 Introducing, whilst Soundcloud made her one of their featured artists for International Women’s Day. A self-described dystopian pop artist – who by sheer fate found herself in Shoreditch after being displaced by a hurricane that tore through the Cayman Islands – Maeve has been influenced by artists such as Tom Waits and Bjork, resulting in a unique sound of her own as she fuses experimental beats and powerful vocals. With a fearless DIY-aesthetic and powerful vision, Maeve is an unstoppable force who is carving out her own path.
